The gastronomy at Parador Lumiar is an experience that goes beyond taste: it is an immersion into the essence of the Serra Fluminense. Our restaurant in Lumiar combines the freshness of locally caught fish with the purity of ingredients harvested from the hotel’s organic garden, bringing to the table dishes that reflect the true flavor of the region.
Here, rustic country cuisine takes on new dimensions, always with a touch of sophistication. From freshly picked salads at dawn to broths and root vegetables that warm you on chilly days, each preparation evokes fond memories and comforts like a lovingly crafted comfort food. To complete the experience, we offer pairings with selected wines, craft beers, and natural juices that enhance the aromas and elevate every detail.
More than just a restaurant in the mountains, Parador Lumiar is an invitation to celebrate life with flavor, warmth, and authenticity — a gastronomy that welcomes, inspires, and connects you to nature.
“Today, the restaurant at Parador Lumiar is not simply one of the best in the countryside, but ranks among the top in Rio, including those in the capital. No one earns the admiration of Roberta Sudbrack, and so many other esteemed figures in Rio’s gastronomy, without reason. I had one of the most pleasant and surprising meals of the last few months there.” – Bruno Agostini
The restaurant also stands out for its attention to vegan palates, offering carefully crafted dishes where each ingredient is treated with the same respect that permeates the chef’s entire creation.
Here, exclusivity is not a word spoken — it is felt. The restrained menu surprises without excess: handmade fresh pasta, such as gnocchi that melts on the palate, transports you to a setting where gastronomy meets art. The famous feijoada, served on Saturdays, exudes elegant rusticity, welcoming visitors who travel miles to savor something both familiar and incomparable.
Hidden among the mountains, Cozinha do Parador does not reveal itself fully — it insinuates, inviting only those seeking the uncommon, the subtle, the sublime. A discovery that, once made, becomes a secret impossible to keep.
Built in stone under the traditional timber-and-wattle house, the wine cellar has capacity for up to 450 bottles.
The famous feijoada served on Saturdays draws visitors from across the state. Prepared on a wood-fired stove, it includes a variety of meats such as pork loin, dried beef, pork ribs, smoked tongue and ribs, bacon, paio, and Portuguese sausage. Side dishes include collard greens, fried cassava, fried bananas, pork cracklings, and salads made with grains and greens. The feijoada also features at least four homemade desserts, such as starfruit preserves, candied lime peel, dulce de leche, fig jam, guava paste, and egg-white pudding.
Another house specialty is the dish named “Da Roça”, with shredded dried beef sautéed with onions in clarified butter, served with rice, farofa, cassava and fried banana, finely chopped collard greens, and beans in charming small bowls.
In the homemade dessert section, our house-made dulce de leche has a memorable texture and pairs perfectly with local cheeses. Other options include pumpkin with coconut, lime, fig, and starfruit sweets. Our kitchen also produces fruit jams, cakes, and cheese breads served at breakfast.
The colorful salads at Parador Lumiar are made with vegetables and greens harvested directly from our garden.
Depending on the season, a wide variety of ingredients can be picked, including vegetables, leaves, and fruits. Edible and decorative flowers, such as broccoli, basil, and blackberry blossoms, are also used in the menu.
Another garden in front of the restaurant is dedicated to herbs and medicinal plants, such as basil, oregano, thyme, turmeric, chives, rosemary, chamomile, lemongrass, mint, peppermint, pennyroyal, lemon balm, vique, camphor, and fennel. Guests can enjoy and warm up with fresh herbal teas.
At Parador Lumiar, we value trout as a special ingredient, turning it into dishes that combine simplicity and sophistication. From the classic grilled preparation to more elaborate recipes, trout takes center stage on our menu, always accompanied by fresh seasonings and pairings that highlight the flavors of the mountains.
In the Lumiar region, surrounded by crystal-clear rivers and mountain waters, trout is a true gastronomic symbol. Raised in pure, natural waters, it offers freshness, lightness, and an authentic flavor that reflects the richness of the region.
Every meal here goes beyond taste: it is a celebration of mountain traditions and the perfect harmony between nature and fine dining.
Our organic garden provides fresh, locally grown ingredients, ensuring authentic and healthy flavors in every dish served at the restaurant.
